John Doody of Shortsville has been selected as this year’s recipient of the 2020 Spirit of Participation Award for his significant contribution to the sport of running. The award will be presented to John on April 25 by The Eye Care Center, the primary sponsor of this event. Additional sponsors include F.F. Thompson Victor Family Practice, Marchon Eyewear, McGhan’s Pub and Victor Local Development Corporation.

The Canton-Potsdam Hospital marathon starts at 9 am, The Thelomathesian Society Half Marathon at 9 am and the SLU Wellness Initiative 5K at 9:30 am. Event details and participation categories for the Marathon and Half Marathon are: Male & Female, Open 19 & under, 20-29, 30-39, 4 canton 0-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 and over. The categories for the 5K Male and Female are Open, 14 and under, 15-16, 17-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 and over.
The marathon is a one loop course, while the half marathon is an out and back course following the first quarter of the marathon route. Walkers are welcome and an early starting time will be available (8AM). St. Lawrence University locker rooms will be open to participants for changing and showering. A block or rooms has been set aside at the Best Western University Inn, Canton.
